Awesome place to visit. Probably one of the most beautiful houses I've had the priviledge to see on the island. It really gives an interesting look on the unique culture of Ponce. The owner of the house was a wealthy baker who founded the Bank of Ponce, and by seeing his house you can get an interesting peek at the life of the Ponce elite of the time. How this culture, composed of entrepreneurial immigrants from Europe, built a distinct culture and city that forms an integral part of PR history. Seeing the house reminds you of the culture and values of these people (both good and bad), and reminds us of our complex heritage. Gave it 4 stars because the second floor hardly has furnishing, so its less interesting. Still worth visiting, though! Tour guide was nice and well informed, and the house has a pretty nice bookshop with Puerto Rican books that are honestly pretty hard to find, so that was a nice surprise. Please go visit, especially if you are from Ponce!

ARMSTRONG POVENTUD HOUSE Its design was commissioned by Ponce businessman Carlos Armstrong-Toro and built by Puerto Rican engineer Manuel Domenech. Casa Armstrong Poventud is an example of Ponce’s magnificence in the late 19th century. The façade of this emblematic structure is adorned with caryatid columns and the interior displays original furniture and other objects belonging to the Armstrong family at the time they resided in the house. European trends in 19th century decorative arts can also be observed inside the house, including the prolific use of stained glass in windows and doors.
